Communication

As Internal Communications Director at Ten-X, I focused my full-time energy on delivering a multi-channel employee communications program that was strategically aligned with the company strategy. It was a chance to demonstrate my communication style and approach across a variety of platforms — email, live meetings, digital signage, intranet, and corporate TV.

Community Management

This jack-of-all trades job has been my focus for the last 10+ years, mostly on the Jive platform. Often a team of one, I was tasked with being a systems admin, HTML coder, programmer, web designer, copywriter, editor, trainer, coach, web analyst, and psychologist all in one. This blend of tech savvy and interpersonal skills has defined my life as well as my personal brand.

I started my community management journey at Mattel and continued it at Auction.com, and Toshiba before my most recent opportunity at UCLA Anderson.

Project Management

Although I’m not a PMP, I have frequently been put in the Project Manager role at nearly every company for whom I’ve worked. I started my PM journey at Nissan where I managed the employee training program and continued at Mattel where I managed number of IT Design Tool implementations as well as several internal Design Summit Conference events.

These project management skills are useful in my personal life, for example, when planning various trips. Every project, whether it be an Epson printer installation at 3 Mattel design centers or a 3-week budget conscious trip to Europe while unemployed, all comes down to three things – time, money, and resources.

Collaboration

In every role I’ve had, being a good collaborator was critical to success. It’s a skill I’ve worked hard on and in a lot of ways, it’s my “secret sauce.”

In my roles as a project manager, successful collaboration was about aligning everyone’s priorities and making success a shared goal.

In my roles a communicator, successful collaboration often required being a go-between differing “camps” to fine an approach that worked for everyone.

As a community manager, collaboration was the name of the game. I not only had to leverage my collaboration skills to get my own projects done (usually as a team of one), but I also had to be an evangelist as to how a collaboration tool like Jive would help my peers work smarter and get better results.
